You can buy almost every brand and model of TV online and certainly in
local chain stores. All except Zenith.

Zenith has some TV's with built in HDTV tuners at reasonable prices
but they are rare both online and locally.

Why is that?

Anyone know of a reasonably priced reputable place online- or in the
NY metro area- to attempt to buy the C32V37- for example.

Amazon surprisingly sells it but say they deliver only to the curb,
which is no good for me.

Call the shipper and arrange for inside delivery. For a surprisingly low
increment, they will get your purchase into your home. For more money,
you should be able to get "white glove" delivery which means whatever
you are willing to pay for, up to and including removal of your old set.

Wouldn't that make the transaction that much more uncertain?

You buy from Amazon (which adds a shipping charge) and then if you can
even find out the shipper, a separate arrangement needs to be made
with them. (The Amazon site gives no option for white glove service
and they don't tell you it's curb delivery unless- as I did- you ask.)

Who becomes responsible if there is damage or something else goes
wrong with the delivery?

All which returns me to the original question: why do so few sell
Zenith (and even when they do- one or two models only).

My HDTV had only "curb delivery", but tipping the driver $20 got him to
help me lug it inside, unbox it, and put it on the stand. I'm sure that
$100 would be the most you'd have to tip a driver to get this same sort
of service.

It sounds like your tolerance for risk is too low to be buying online
at all to me.

If I was buying a Panasonic or other brands, this would be easy. Those
brands are readily available with a good delivery option.

But for the Zenith, no local retailers (and this is in the NYC area),
Amazon, with curb delivery only, and just one or two online venders,
with unknown reputations.

Doesn't Zenith want to sell their products?

Zenith is a wholly owned subsidiary of LG Electronics, so perhaps most of
your local retailers prefer to carry the LG product line, rather than those
of Zenith. However, it appears that LG does not offer the same range of
choices as Zenith does with regard to integrated HDTV receivers. LG does not
offer direct view CRT HD televisions, which is what I am assuming that you
are wanting to purchase from Zenith.

Why don't you drop them a line and voice your concerns.

You may even check the Zenith website to see if they offer direct sales.
Sometimes (surprisingly!) you can get good prices straight from the
manufacturer, as I did with a Sony TV. They had free shipping, free in home
delivery and disposal of packing stuff. A week later they added a 10%
discount to their offers. Not bad at all, worth looking into.

Zenith is gone has been for years... it's name and intellectual property
rights (such as those covering Zenith's contributions to ATSC HDTV) are now
owned by the Korean Lucky Group - LG, who markets increasingly under their
own name.

The Zenith weighs less than 200 pounds even its shipping carton which isn't
very much for two grown men. If you really want the Zenith, just buy it
from Amazon.com and have a buddy (and a dolly around) just in case. The
driver will, in all likelihood, have a very sturdy hand truck or other
equipment and would be more than glad to help out for a small tip. Once you
get the item inside the dwelling then you're on your own to get it into the
entertainment center but it should be a relatively easy task to get it
inside.

I purchased a riding mower from Amazon in the summer of 2003 which was
shipped as freight on a semi. Once it was in town, I made arrangements with
the shipper to deliver it with one of their trucks with a lift gate where it
was easy to unload directly into my garage since I don't have a loading
dock. It took a couple of days extra since the truck with the lift was
popular but it still was reasonable especially since Amazon's shipping was
free. Shippers/drivers are happy to work with you so longs as you don't
want anything unreasonable.

I think you have answered your own question. Don't buy Zenith. Buy another
brand that can be delivered where and how you want it.

would not be interested in an expended tier, this set would be almost
perfect- hopefully picking up clear QAM from their cable provider. If
only Zenith wanted to sell it.

I don't know why these sets are not more discussed on this board.
Seems they should be.

I did look at a Zenith set at Best Buy prior to buying my set and I would
say that I liked what I saw. However, I ended up buying a Sony 50" LCD rear
projection (KDF-50WE655) because I liked the overall features and picture
better. Just personal preference though. There are plenty of good sets out
there that your parents would be happy with.

Good luck with your purchase and delivery dilemma.

Zenith exists only as a brand name of LG. LG (Lucky GoldStar) invested in
Zenith, then loaded the
board with Korean buddies. Even though Zenith held valuable patents for
HDTV, flat screen picture
tubes, FM stereo radio, TV remote control, LG forced Zenith into bankruptcy
over some loans, had the
stock cancelled, then took over the assets as a "secured lender" while the
stockholders got zero.

LG reinvented Zenith as a "marketing" company, meaning they produce nothing
of their own. Then they screwed
the loyal distributors who stood by them during the bankruptcy by cancelling
their contracts and selling direct to retailers.

I talked to an LG rep at Best Buy a few weeks ago who told me that they are
pushing the LG brand name
for digital TV, and using the Zenith name mostly on low end analog products
sold in bulk to motels and
rent-to-own stores.

I bought an RCA DLP from Circuit City last year that also has a built in
