Run a full scan, it's free and it's powerful.

sixengine? Is that Asus energy saving software? Just asking?

Could be malware, could be legit software, could be a glitch in the OS. Maybe even a driver/hardware issue. If you can't get to the bottom of it run 'system restore' and restore to a point before the slowdown started.

Might possibly be McAffe - I've never trusted that system hog myself - maybe an update from them clogged you up somehow? Worth looking into.

Boot off the Vista DVD. First delete existing partition and then install the OS. Homebuilt system is a piece of cake. Getting drivers for a retail brand system is a little more problematic, particularly for laptops, but if you dig around you can usually do it. What kind of system do you have?

here are my specs

mobo: Asus P5Q-Pro
OS: Vista ultimate 64 bit
CPU: Intel E8400
anything else you need

So it's a homebuilt? If so should be a simple install. Just boot off of the DVD. Drivers to get you up and running will be on the DVD then you get updated versions of net later.

If you get any problem from Vista activation just call the phone number and tell them it's a reinstall.

Install guide step by step with screens: http://www.winsupersite.com/showca [...] all_03.asp

when you get here, to the screen in this link http://www.winsupersite.com/images [...] an_017.jpg
go to 'drive options' - there you will delete your existing partition from your hard drive. This will wipe the drive. Then choose this same drive to install to and the install routine should do the rest. Just be sure to save any files you want to keep before you do all this of course.
