My wife is having some issues with her laptop (Gateway). She is running Vista 32 bit, and up until this points she has not had a problem with anything.

Now out of nowhere, she is having some funny problems with the keyboard. When she types (email for example) sometimes the different letters that are pressed act like a shortcut key. It will open anything from "My comp" to the start menu, and everything in between depending on the key pressed. I thought maybe she was doing something to it, so i took it for awhile. It will pop up the start menu even when its just sitting on a table! It will pop up, then down, repeat....

I am thinking a can of air and some time blowing things around might fix it, but i wanted to get some input on what else could be the culprit. Any ideas?

Try a different keyboard. If that doesn't work, you could possibly have a program conflict causing it, just speculation on my part. Also, try a USB keyboard if you have one.

Sounds like the Windows key is sticking... try carefully popping it off and reseating it. Make sure it's clean underneath as well.

Bingo! Stuck key. Windows, or Shift, or Control all make the computer do strange things when they're stuck, since 'Control N' does not equal the first letter in Nancy... :pt1cable:
