Hi, after installing SP2 (or SP3) on this computer (Windows XP) it ends up getting a BSOD during startup, and I have to go to safe mode to uninstall the service pack.
My BSOD error message is:
0x0000007e (0xC0000005, 0x00000000, 0xF79F70C0, 0xF79F6DBC)
I've googled this and did some of the procedures I've found:
-I have defragged
-Scanned for viruses/malware/adware
-Ran Chkdsk
-Installed the WindowsXP-KB900485-v2-x86-ENU.exe fix
-and I don't have a Creative Labs Soundblaster 16 Joystick
Here are my events:

I imagine one of my drivers is at fault, but I don't know how to check them and see if they are.
I have to go to safe mode to uninstall the service pack.
So after uninstalling SP3 did the machine not straighten out?
You do not have to run SP3 its caused some of us serious problems, and I'm one of them!
I had to do a Repair reinstallation of XP, and reinstalled XP to SP2 and all is well.
I you're just determined to install SP3 and wade through all the crap necessary to get it to run properly, then I'm sure someone will come along to guide you in the time it will take to accomplish it.
For some SP3 seems to install flawlessly for others it doesn't, so the question is, is it worth the time and effort to get it to run, and it doesn't increase your performance anyway.
Some hardware issues arose with SP3 and ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe M/Bs and HP computers running AMD CPUs, so if any of that hardware sounds familiar, well you're a SP3 victim.
My suggestion is stick with SP2, it works just fine!
