I have vista 64bit home premium already installed and I need to install a 32bit os so I got my bros Windows xp sp3 but I can't seem to install it. It says I got a newer version and won't let me install regardless, any ideas?
What you didn't do is give XP a place to install. It is telling you that you're trying to overwrite Vista and preventing that from happening so you don't end up destroying what you already have.
You will need to create a place to put XP - Either create a new partition for XP on your existing HDD, or buy another hard drive to install XP to. Either way works, but I recommend a physically separate drive.
Then, because you are installing an older OS after you have installed the new, you will need to repair the boot manager. You can find instructions how to do that here:
