Linux Driver Problem

I am pretty much new to Linux. My problem is I dual boot with Vista and I can't make my Xonar Essence STX to work. Apparently is not compatible with Mandriva Linux, and the only way is to write my own device driver. Is there any other way?

If I want to use linux do you think it is best to build a separate box with Linux compatible hardware?
