What makes you think it's superfetch? I hear stories about HD thrashing but for some reason I never get it and I have 8 gig of Ram (meaning superfetch has a lot to play with) and almost two terabytes of data on several hard drives and I index everything.

How old is this installation?

fire up task manager and goto performance.
On the performance page near the bottom click resource monitor.
On that page click the down arrow in the disk section and see if you can tell what is doing all of the disk activity.
Its possible that it is defrag or something else.
Defrag in Vista can run as a background service and will have the same symptoms.

If yours was a fresh install then it is a fairly common occurance.

With prefetch Vista has a better search ability because it uses a bit of the HDD to store its memory so that it can remember where everything is.

Its good that its over and you will see improvements the next time you search for something on your computer.

It doesnt have to search for everything on your computer if it already knows where it is.
