Bad, if this isn't vista2, it will be similar when it comes to new features and performance!

none of the possible answers work for me

you seem to start with the assumption that Vista is bad (answer 2 "bad, if this isn't vista 2 it will be similar . . " or have I misread your meaning here?

Vista is a very good OS, I expect 7 to be Vista 2 more or less, for sure there will not be any massive changes - there should be some progress - I'll give it a try

I dont exactly agree that i started with the assumption that Vista is bad, but i meant as a pimped up vista. Im using vista on my athlon 64+ 3500 and im pretty happy with it.

That's cool. Sorry if I misread. I'm really hoping 7 will if nothing else give Vis . . uh . .the present kernal . . a new lease on life. I fully expect MS to fix the marketing blunders and to add some new, cool functionality and maybe they can manage to speed it up a tad.

I think maybe a lot of tech writers who have staked their reputations on Vista bashing just because the others were doing it will maybe try to give 7 the benefit of the doubt.

It's already been confirmed that Microsoft is not screwing with the OS in any large manner, and that the upgrade/switch from Vista is therefore supposed to be more or less seamless. Same Kernel, Same driver model, etc etc etc... ("MinWin" was an internal toy and never intended for production) So, depending on your point of view, then it'll either be "Vista SP2" /spit or perhaps 'What Vista Should Have Been 2 Years Ago". Regardless, Randall Kennedy at Infoworld has already made the transition from Vista bashing to Win 7 bashing. Yes, you read right: Win 7 isn't even a Beta product yet, and he's already screaming about how terrible it's going to be. Seeing as the bashers are already trying to set the tone, I guess we can look forward to two more years of misinformed, distorted b*llshit from the XP crowd.

I did hear that MSFT were looking at making some of the services optional, so users can choose whether to use them or not without having to resort to vLite and other programs to strip them out. Not a lot of information has been forthcoming on that, though. And since the Beta is currently set to start in December, and making a 'chinese menu' out of Windows services isn't exactly a trivial excercise, I have my doubts as to how much of the rumor is accurate versus how much is wishful thinking.

------------------------------ Which Chip? Well, it depends on which set of thieving b@stardz you choose to support: The ones who use insider trading to enrich themselves while running their company into the ground, or the ones who illegally pay vendors to not support the first group.

Nah it looks good to me so far, will hopefully be a slightly newer looking vista that runs faster. What more could we want :P

I personally would put up with vista for another 3/4 years

if linux didnt exist i would "put up" with vista, but luckily free, open source, personally customizable software exists that performs at a very similar level to vista (at least for my uses, sans games). It would definetely be nice to see an innovative, customizable windows 7; if Microsoft succeeds, they may manage to win me back from free software.

I am looking forward to Windows 7, if the past is a window to the future, Win Mill was relaced in short order by XP and look at how it turned out, I only wish the Linux crowd would get the gaming thing to work----
