I wanted to sort of start fresh on my computer without reinstalling XP and also to test if my backup would restore correctly if and when I do reinstall, so I set up a new user account with administrative priviledges and attempted to transfer my files and programs over to that account.

The backups of my files work no problem, but all the programs I downloaded from the internet would not load on the new user account. It basically says that the computer cannot find the executable file. Before you answer that I should try to download the program fresh from the internet, I did. I tried it in two ways: I downloaded the programs directly from the internet and saved the setup files on the backup external drive, and I downloaded the programs fresh from the internet while in the new user account and both ways would not load.

Am I missing something? It's as if the new user account either didn't accept the settings of an administrator as I set it up to have, or that the new user account is somehow damaged.

Any ideas anyone? Any help would be highly appreciated. I want to make sure my backup works completely (programs included) in a new user account before I attempt a reinstall and find out too late that something doesn't work.

Thank you.
