The network adapter i use is an integrated marvell yukon Gb-E on an Asus DH 975X MB. Here's the problem, whenever i somehow lose my ip and have to renew, it won't renew successfully unless i reboot the entire system. Also, it frequently disconnects when i xdcc files on irc. It however, retains the connection and the DHCP assigned ip address, but i can't open webpages nor do any web related things anymore until the next time i reboot. I have already updated my drivers to the latest. :(

Thanks in advance

Are you using a router or is it straight into the modem?
If your using a router take it out of the picture and connect directly into the modem. I had problems with losing internet and network. Ended up being the router causing the problems.

the strange thing is that it only happens when i use irc. If i don't run irc at all, i won't ever get disconnected even with aggressive BTing. And i've tried restoring the connection by bypassing the router when that problem occurred. :(

This is kind of going around the problem but just set the computer to static IP and see if that fixes it. You could also try a different IRC client or maybe an update to the version you use.
