Been a lurker on the forums for a little while but found this to be quite interesting.
freedom9 has a firewall called the freeGuard 100. Went over to their website and noticed that they have a firewall that looked strikingly similar to the fortigate 60 but on the 2.8 firmware.
On a whim, decided to purchase the freeGuard 100 and try loading the fortiOS 3.0 firmware on it.
And what do you know, it worked! What's even better is that the fortigate allows you to boot to different firmwares... so if anything happens, I just have to revert back to the "freedom9" 2.8 firmware.
Advantage: the freedom9 "OEM" product is significantly cheaper than the Fortinet.
