Ok, so after installing Windows Vista Ultimate, and installing the ATI video drivers that came with my X1600 I was able to set the resolution to 1680 x 1050 on a 22" LCD. The only problem was that I couldn't use aero, and everytime I shutdown I would get the blue screen of death saying that there was a problem with an ATI driver: ati2dvag.dll. So I upgrade the driver to the latest on released by ATI and no longer get the bsod, but now I can't set the resolution to 1680 x 1050.

Here's my computer guts:
Windows Vista Ultimate 32-Bit
Intel Pentium CPU 3.20GHz
4.00 GB
ATI X1600 512mb

Was the previous driver uninstalled & the pc restarted prior to the new install? If not, uninstall the new one, restart and install it again.

I'm having the same problem. I've looked around and a few people have mentioned editing the plug-and-play monitor inf file. It is supposedly easy to do but I have not tried myself.
