The two are going to be roughly equivalent (Mint is derived from Ubuntu, both are using the same Window Manager/Desktop Environment). You may want to give some of the other lightweight options a spin (which you can do without installing a new Linux! You actually get to choose on login!).

Some fine options are:
XFCE
Enlightenment 17
Fluxbox (my personal fave, be ready to edit config files but it is the ultimate in flexibility)
FVWM-Crystal

This is not a complete list, just some of the ones that come to mind

In addition to those two, take a look at peppermint -- I used it for many months and was pleased with it. Recommend One as the version I used.

i dont really like to config stuff on my own. im a lazy dude. lol thats i liked mint when i saw it lol

and the peppermint is looking cool. thanks for the suggestions
