i just bought vista and when i tried to install it, it sayd that it did not find a volume that met vista's cryteria. i bought not a long time ago a new hard disk of 500 GB. why won't it install?

what channel is your 500gb drive located ... eg. sata 1, sata 2 so on

also if you're using a sata drive, which you should be, are you running this drive alongside a previously existing raid array? raid can be tricky so it's probably for the best to just disable raid in your bios settings. also a good idea to format that 500gb volume through the vista installer.

I was running two drives in a raid 0 array when one of them died. Took a bit of work to get the remaining drive up and running as my OS install. Had the same problem as you, but after disabling raid and formatting the drive everything went smoothly. Good luck!
