Whenever I go into the Windows Vista performance options and turn the "Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing" off, it turns back on after a while. It is quite annoying :fou: Is there a solution?

Even if I choose windows vista basic and have it set on "Adjust best for perfomance" it keeps changes alone to custom. Very irritating!!

I don't have Vista, but this kept happening to me on XP. The way I fixed it is by editing this entry in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\AnimateMinMax

I changed the entry CheckedValue = 0. This is the same as UncheckedValue, so that way whether or not it is checked, it is considered disabled. Don't know if Vista will have the same entry but it's worth a try.

jaragon is right, if you disable aero than window animation effects won't be available by default.
