Hi:

I got a new digital camera that also take AVI videos (Canon SD870IS).

I can upload files (jpg and avi) to the computer... but when I move the mouse over any listing of the avi files (only) I get the hourglass... followed by this pop-up error message:

Date Execution Prevention - Microsoft Windows
To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program.
Name: Windows Explorer
Publisher: Microsoft Corporation [Close Message]

then... a new pop-up

Windows Explorer
Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
<blah blah> Error Report?

This only happens in windows explorer (both WE and MyComp).
The utility program from canon displays the files and runs them fine - no error.

In fact, even in explorer... if I double click the avi file, Windows Media Player will start AND correctly play the file...

The Canon people worked through the problem and uninstalled all their software... it doesn't seem to be a Canon issue.

My particulars:
Dell D8400 P4 1gb
Windows XP Home SP3

I appreciate any help you can offer!

I had a similar problem, whenever I opened an explorer window with an MPG file in it, I would get a DEP error. I turned off DEP for Internet Explorer and it solved the problem.
