That question is far, far too vague to come up with a reasonable answer.

There are many differences between the two and only share the most tenuous of historical backgrounds, yet are somewhat similar in the way you interact with the system (from a terminal perspective).

"Better" is an extremely subjective term, it depends on what you are looking for in an OS.

If you mean AIX, linux, Windows and mac os. I agree that it's completely subjective. AIX is not something you should use at home. Linux is great for a lot of things but the experience varies wildly from distribution to distribution. Windows is great if you want to not work very hard at using a computer or if you are preparing yourself for an office environment. I work in IT. My gaming computer and my work laptop are Windows, my diagnostic and general use machines are linux and I have a macbook pro which is slowly dwindling to obscurity with the advent of modern Linux and Windows 7 but still hosts my pictures and my Mail because its built in applications are great and as long as I format it every 8 months or so it performs well and sorts files efficiently.
AIX is for special purposes, youd have to read more yourself. Mac, Windows and Linux are general purpose operating systems with server variants and explaining the differences really matters what you are using them for.
