I'm ordering an ASUS P5Q Pro from Newegg, but heard that installing Windows XP to a SATA HD requires a floppy?

There are some guides to add a SATA driver to the XP install, but the driver I downloaded from ASUS is a windows setup executable, not a driver file.

What do I do?

You should be able to get those drivers from the cd that comes with the motherboard.

Windows XP with SP 2 does not require SATA drivers to be installed at the f6 command.

You should only have to install drivers if you're using a RAID array.

Set the SATA function to IDE in the BIOS setup [Normally Default], install the OP/SYS and when the OP/SYS is up and running if you need to enable AHCI [Advanced Host Controller Interface], you can do it from Windows and install the drivers from there, then go back to the BIOS setup and change the SATA function to AHCI.

Unless you're intending on running a RAID array, in that case you will need to go the F6 Floppy Install route unless you slipstream the RAID drivers to the installation CD.
