I was messing around with chipset and audio drivers the other day and I fudged up my computer so I re installed windows but now some of my apps can't seem to update. eg AVG wont update, windows live messenger wont install, windows updates don't work, my internet usage meter wont update and i don't think Sucrom works so its a rather crippling problem. Every thing else like steam, xfire, IE and firefox work fine. The strange thing is I was experiencing this right before I re installed which is one of the reasons I re installed.

any ideas on whats wrong?

Heya Sharft,

If you have done a HDD reformat and OS reinstall including the chipset drivers for your motherboard I would first begin looking at my hardware firewall i.e. router.

Usually on routers there is a little button on the back or underneath which you can depress for a few seconds with a pen nib to reset it back to factory settings.

Try this and see if your applications now have regained internet access.

If you have any specific security settings on your router they will need to be re-entered.

good idea but still no luck :(

I installed winXP which seems to work fine. I will sit on this this until I upgrade.

UPDATE: It seems to have fixed itself because i can finally install msn and my internet usage checker is working in colour now. Yesterday there were lots of trucks and people with hard hats working near my exchange. maybe that had something to do with it :s
