Hi everyone: I just bought a intel core2 quad q9550 and I was woundering what would be the best os for it would be? From my previous research I belive i can only get the best use of a quad with 64 bit am I right?
32 bit would not be able to use all four cores in the cpu, or all the memory....
anyway from my limited scanning of forums and such xp 64 seems to be the way to go but I don't know about vista, i'm using vista with my current system now and it's ok i guess, but to be honest I like xp better. but I'm not sure of 64 bit or of the installation. any help? plz?
thanks

Support for Vista 64 is near 100% right now and it's getting better. XP 64 was never fully embraced and will probably get less and less attention as time goes by. It has it's supporters and it may well be quite serviceable, never tried it myself, but I'd put my money on Vista going forward.

Vista 64 SCREAMS on a quad with plenty of RAM. You will not be dissatisfied with it's performance. But hey, if you like XP, give XP 64 a try and let us know how it goes.

oops that should be 4 gig of ddr3 1333 mhz ram...
also i was seeing the different posts about the different flavors of vista 64,
which would be best for gaming?

You'd have to buy a copy of 64bit vista and install it. I think all the versions offer the same gaming performance. It depends on your budget and if something you need is only in one of the versions.

Vista 64 bit all the way. XP 64 bit has few drivers written for it and you will run into problems later on...

I'll admit that vista sucked when it was first released, but there's no reason not to upgrade to it now.
