I have an Abit N7HD with AMD 64 Brisbane 5000+BE. I have a WD GP SATA 500GB drive. The os installed fine, flawless. When it attempts to go into desktop for the very first time after installation, it won't go. All I'm getting is a blank screen. I left it there for over 15min and still nothing. I even swapped out the hard drive and still get the same result. I also tried different SATA port/slot, nothing. I also tried a different xp disk, same result.

I installed the os on an older IDE drive and it worked fine, no errors. Now the IDE drive died :(.

Please help.

Thanks

My first SATA drive took forever to boot to as well. Check your SATA boot settings in cmos.

Hey raven..thanks for the reply..again :D . In BIOS, in the hard drive boot priority section, it has SATA to boot first then follow by Bootable cards. Those are the only 2 options. As for the boot priority, I have the hard drive boot first then CDROM.

How long did it take your first SATA to boot..more than 15 min.?

15 min is really bad time.

It should be the same or faster as your IDE hard drive.

Check for different BIOS settings maybe?

Also, once you finally get into the system - check event viewer for error logs.

You said you tried different SATA drive and it was still the same. Did you check different SATA cable?

I haven't try a different cable yet. I'll do that tonight and hopefully it solves the issue. This is driving me :pt1cable:
