NEED HELP! I have exactly the same problem as this guy: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/235298-35-sptd-blue-screen-death

Now the problem.....

Ive booted off my windows disk, and started the windows recovery repair thing, but what do i have to put in the command prompt? do i have to set up a new boot sector? :S

I have tried booting my pc without any other hardware apart from mouse and keyboard but still comes up with blue screen of death after windows loading page, then it instantly resets. It was working fine this morning i dont understand! and i dont want to lose anything!!! please help,

Will.

Heya jellybeans,

You were on the right track with your repair install, but it sounds like you entered the recovery console instead. These are 2 different things, but the confusion between the two is not uncommon.

If you go a bit further, as though you are reinstalling XP you wil see the repair option appear.

The Microsoft link below is more detailed on how to do a repair install assuming XP is your current operating system.

Ok thanks, yes I went into the recovery console and got lost lol. I'll try the repair when I get home, thanks a lot. Does the repair function wipe the hard drive? It doesn't does it?

I've never had to do a repair install myselft, but it is my understanding that it will only affect system files.

That being said though, if it were me I would backup my important data, just to be on the safe side.
