Here's the situation:
I just reinstalled Windows XP with SP2.
I did a fresh install.
My previous OS was Windows XP with SP2.
I burned my music, pictures, web design templates, and a couple drivers I would need onto a DVD-RW disc.
My DVD drive is DVD-R/RW and also CD-RW all in one.
I burned the disc with Nero 9, using the Nero Express feature. I burned it as a Data DVD.
Now, the problem I'm having is when I insert the disc (after formatting for fresh install) to retrieve my files, nothing happens. I go to My Computer and right click on my DVD drive and it freezes My Computer. It doesn't freeze my entire computer, just the My Computer window. It stops responding.
When I remove the disc, it begins to respond again.
I have no clue what's going on here, but I really need the data, I spent hours coding those templates.
This data is very valuable to me, so if anyone can help, there will be much gratitude!
Thanks.
I have had trouble with nero before and finally decided it wasnt worth the trouble anymore.
Try this as this was one of the headaches that I found.
Uninstall nero one more time and reboot.
Now here is where the trouble happens but is a easy cure.
You will find that you dvd\cd doesnt work.
To solve this goto device manager and uninstall the dvd\cd drive and reboot.
Once windows reboots it will auto detect the drive and install the generic drivers for it.
The data should then be available. If not I recommend the K Lite codec pack and you will get many codecs for various formats.
As stated above I dont think you will need any additional codecs for a data dvd but I cant be certain as I am on a vista system right now and cant look to see what codecs are loaded on xp.
It should work though as many games come as a data dvd.
I know for certain the cd write will work correctly.
For some reason nero doesnt give the drive back after a uninstall and possibly it is confusing itself after you uninstalled it twice.
