Same core as the HD2900XT and just more/better memory? 8O
So i don't think that it would be able to defeat the 8800GTX/Ultra.
Maybe kills the 8800GTS for good but as the site said:
...1024MB of GDDR4 memory cost noticeably more compared to 512MB of GDDR3.
So it will cost much more than 8800GTS 640MB.(maybe same as GTX or even Ultra)
So whats the point in buying such a thing?

Would you all just please read the sources they used? The product matrix they cited has NO HD series cards on it, period.

Either Sapphire changed their matrix to remove the entire HD series or the story is bogus.

Hopefully, ATI can get its act together. I had always bought ATI in the past and now I'm practically an NV fanboy due to the late release/disappointing performance of the 2900. Besides if they don't do something NV will never get around to doing a shrink or making new chips. Go ATI?!?!?

The HD series is under weblist 2k worksheet but there's no 2900 XTXs

Sounds interesting, but how hot would this thing be? Will I be able to use it to make toast and fry eggs? I am looking forward to see how this card performs.

i wouldn't mind seeing NV bring out the 8900 gtx at 65nm, if the 2900 is all that ati has got, hopefully NV will bring out a killer card

PS with 1Gb of GDR4
