Hello Everyone!

I would like to ask the expert guys attending this community, their opinion on a motherboard ready for core 2 duo processors.

I just can't find a motherboard with 2 ide channels like the one I am using now (asus a8n-sli) in order to connect 3 IDE hard drives and an optical unit. I also have an ati 2900xt video card, just in case this is useful as information.

Could you please suggest me a motherboard for my needs?
I wouldn't like to change my hard drives right now.

Thanks in advance for your precious help and excuse me for my poor english

Thanks for Your reply Evongugg!

Do you think I will get a lower reading/writing speed when using the hard drives with a IDE controller ?

Possibly but it shouldn't be significant, just put the two drives you use the least on the card. Also you should seriously consider replacing one of your hard drives, they are so cheap now that you can probably replace two of your PATA drives with one SATA drive and fix the problem right there for the same price as a good controller card.

Here

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010200280+1070509908+1297219547+1070625638+1073416878&Subcategory=280&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc=

That takes you to a newegg search that has 2 PATA ports, Socket 775 and PCI-e 16x as prerequisites. Any of those should work.

you could also get an external drive enclosure and put the third IDE drive in that, USB 2.0 provides fast enough transfer rates for seldom used file storage. Just make sure you get an enclosure with a fan built in if you plan to leave the drive on for extended periods.
