Ubuntu Gaming

I'm currently building a system and to stay in budget I am looking at either reusing my windows 7 32bit os or using Ubuntu. My new system will be primarily for gaming. Games will include Skyrim, COD, BF2&3, and many others.

My question is how does Ubuntu handle such games?

Reuse your Windows 7. It's much easier than trying to get Windows games to run under Linux.

if it doesn't matter to you which OS you use, I can confirm that Windows games is one of weak points of using Linux. even when a game can be run Windows will still do it better, and without the headache.

if you want to just try it I would suggest to also install winetricks, and with that install .net 2.0, vcrun2005, and install the full version of directx9 with winetricks. that will get most games going.

I don't see the point in using Linux here.

Windows is definitely the gaming platform of choice.

I have never had much luck getting games to run inside wine. There are a few good free FPS games on the software centre like Open Arena though.
