When i try to open excel attachments (in case where i am connected to internet or network) it takes too much time to open. i noticed that when i open a work book for which i have disabled the update link function opens fast but for others it takes too much time, i monitered in task manager for some time excel stops responding. it also happens when i try to open from open function not only when i double click.

You should talk to your office IT about this, as its a network issue that's slowing down file operations. In the meantime, why don't you download the file to your workstation and work on it there?
