I hate acpi, doesn't let me set irq!

I know you can select the hal you want to use when installing, but isn't there a way to do it in windows?

I'm running x64

The reason? My sound card has some bad irq conflicts. I've tried everything. I can't relocate my card because I have two graphics cards blocking all but one pci slot.

If its risky, I can always reinstall vista, not like its the end of the world.

Yeah, after studying the acpi drivers...it doesn't look good. I just installed vista sp2 beta, no improvement with the sound but a pretty big improvement with fps (up about 10-15fps).

Ive resolved the irq conflict, but no change. The sound card is sharing the same memory address as pci-pci bridge.

The sound card is pretty nice, Auzentech prelude 7.1.

I will try to remove the sound card after uninstalling it. Then I will reset irq settings in bios, and reinstall.

Thats a good idea.
Uninstall the drivers.
Then goto device manager and see if it is there. If so then delete it there also. Shutdown.
Remove the card and reboot.
Check the BIOS to be sure they are set to assign IRQ automatically by the operating system.
(Also note if needed turn off any onboard sound)
Save and exit.
Continue booting.
Look around to be sure it is gone. Shutdown.
Reinsert the card and allow it to boot.
If windows tries to give it drivers and if you can say no, do so.
Use the newest drivers from the card maker, install the drivers.
Good luck
