I have found out through HP site ( that my printer is not supported on the USB buss. This machine runs Ubuntu-Cups 11.10.

If I add a PCI parallel card, will Linux recognize a printer supported on the parallel port the same way it recognized a USB-supported printer ? Will I then be able to step through the installation like occurs with a USB-supported printer?

Also, should I install the latest HPLIP?

^ That's how you get to CUPS. Install HP-LIP and click that link, follow the prompts.
