Printer works fine, computer slows to a crawl

Whenever I print anything lengthy the computer slows to a crawl. Actually it
freezes for a long time until the OS gives it a time slice and then it
freezes again. I am running XPHome on a Dell 2.5 gig machine. The printer
is an old HP672c. I have gone into
ControlPanel/Systems/Advanced/PerformanceSettings/Advanced and made sure the
OS gives foreground programs priority. Is there anything else I can do?

You could try different spooling options. Usually this setting is in the
properties sheets for the printer (Printers and Faxes | target printer:
right click and select Properties).
