Ubuntu server booting problem PLEASE HELP

hey guys, i have an old computer that I am trying to turn into a server computer running ubuntu. it has windows xp running on it currently. I put the dvd rom of ubuntu 32 bit into the disc drive and in make it boot from disc drive, but it then just goes straight back to "which operating system would you like to boot".

PLEASE HELP ME!!

Computer server specs
1gb RAM
Pentium 4

Have you gone into the BIOS to change the boot order?

Really stupid question - it does have a DVD drive, not just a CD?
