Anyone know of any free software that uses all 4 cores? I convert videos occasionally to watch on my ps3 and the video converters I use don't seem to utilize all the processor speed that's avaliable to it. Most of the time, it only uses 1 or 2 threads even when multi threading is enabled. Can anyone recommend me a video encoder that actually uses all my cpu power to convert these video files faster? Thanks

If you can use H.264 in MKV or MP4 containers on the PS3, Handbrake is an excellent program that can utilise at least 8 threads at 100%.

Another vote for HandBreak. It fully utilizes my i7 920 with 8 cores humming at 100%. I've been ripping all my DVDs into mkv files, and haven't had a problem yet. I'm running in Win 7 right now as well.

Have you guys tried badaboom? That's suppose to be way better than handbrake

badaboom:
-limited codex support
-No Dolby DTS
-only works with Nvidia GPUs
-Costs money

According to reviews it is considerably faster than transcoding in handbreak with an i7 as long as you have a GT200 series.

I replaced my 8800GTX with an ATI 5870. And my CPU is an i7 920. Plus I don't plan to spend $100 just to transcode. So it doesn't really appeal to me.
