I will soon be installing a new 64 bit compatible motherboard into my pc. I currently have 32 bit Vista installed.

My question is that I also have a copy of 64 bit and would like to know if I can install 64 bit as soon as i replace motherboard.

New MB is different chipset, will this cause problems when trying to install 64 bit.

What should I do?

I have never replaced hardware before and so doing this and upgrading to 64 bit at same time worries me.

Thanks in advance

I don't understand your dilemma. You only have one option if you wish to install Vista 64 and that is to do a fresh install. There should be no problem doing a fresh install on the new motherboard but if you are trying to figure out how to do an upgrade which will save your old programs then forget about it as there is no way.

If you are worrying about activation on an OEM version then I'm not sure exactly what will happen. I would imagine that when you attempt to install Windows by reusing an OEM key on a new motherboard you might have a problem - usually if you call the number MS gives you they will allow you to proceed if you simply tell them your motherboard died and you have no choice but to reinstall on a new one.
