Trying to install a Canan MP620 on XP SP3.

The installation software is unable to detect the printer when it gets to the point where it asks for the printer to be connected and turned on. The XP found new hardware wizard does pop up, and I can see the device in the Device Manager (under USB) so the PC can see it.

I *have* managed to install the printer on another XP PC. The only difference I can think of is that the problem one runs Windows Defender. I did try disabling the real time protection section, and installing it on the good PC in an attempt to re-create the problem.

The only other difference is that the good PC does not pop up the found new hardware wizard. How do I disable that? Anything else to try?

Finally fixed it. Not sure which one was the cure, but did the following:

uninstalled defender,
disabled rt scanning in norton,
disabled windows firewall,
deleted all USB devices in device manager
