Buying Windows Xp Pro

Ok so I'm interested in possibly purchasing a copy of Windows XP Pro and I was wondering what I should do. This is for myself so can i buy an OEM version (which is cheaper) or do I have to buy the full retail version? And also what is this I hear about an Academic version, because I am a college student, any one know anything about this? Thanks in advance!

Buy the OEM version. I've always done that. People will tell you that you cannot then ever use it on another computer, but I've never had a problem reactivating OEM copies of either Vista or XP on several different computer builds.

The worst that will happen is that you'll have to call MS for activation and then you'll get an automated voice asking how computers you have it installed on. Just say 'one' and it'll give you a new activation code. Usually it just reactivates over the internet without a problem.
