Linux mint boot issue

Hi!
I have a gateway nv78, running windows 7. in trying to run linux 64 bit, the computer loads off the dvd, and i can select the "Run linux mint 64 bit" option, but all i get is a black screen. even after reading off the cd for 10 minutes, i still get nothing. any suggestions?

I'd suggest the first thing to do is burn another copy of the disc, it sounds like it might well be corrupted. If that does not work then can you let us know which graphics card it has in it, they did versions with both Nvida and ATI cards.

It seems like some poeple have been having issues with this laptop, specific versions of the kernel, and the backlight itself. Read some of this bug report and see if it sounds consistent with what you're seeing/your hardware. The report also lists some work-arounds that you can try
