Not complaining just wondering how accurate the readings really are. Its good software, use it every day. Cpu idles around 45C and GPU idles around 52C. Just seems a little high to me and I have good air cooling...Antec case 5 fans room temp is 72 deg F.
Those temps seem reasonable to me. In fact, 52C is lower than average for 8800 series cards, mine idles at about 60 C if I leave the fan on auto control. Assuming the stock EVGA cooler for your vid card, the video card temp is more dependent on its fan's speed than on the overall case airflow as long as the card isn't starved for air. I can get the idle temp on my GTS (320 MB version, but that shouldn't affect temperature much)down to 49 C by using Rivatuner to turn the graphics fan to 100% all the time, but the noise is obnoxious then, so I just leave it on auto. The 6000+ is known to run fairly hot, that is the price to be paid for having the fastest K8 processor, and the main reason I didn't get one myself. I wouldn't be surprised by those temps if you use the AMD fan, especially if you leave the speed control on auto. I built an X2 4800+ (65 nm version) system for my sister and it idles at 40 C with the fan on auto, but the full load temp is only 47C when the fan spins up. I didn't try manually setting the fan to full speed on the 4800+ like I do with my own system, so the idle temps could have been driven lower if I wanted to. However, that processor has about half the dissipation of the 6000+.
As to Everest, it agrees with pretty much every other program that monitors temps I've tried. You can download Coretemp and nTune to verify the CPU reading and GPU reading respectively if you want another data point.
Yeh I thought so as well for the 8800, from what I've read so far. I havent had any issues yet, everything runs great even under load. Using a Zalman 9500 cooler for the cpu. Never even tried the Stock cooler. I am loving this GTS 640 but I may use my one time step up from EVGA and get the GTX superclocked. Playing all my games at 1920 x 1200 max settings is flawless but playing Lost Planet demo in DX9 frame rates drop down to 10 to 15 fps. So If I want to play the coming games like Crysis,Bioshock,COD 4 etc at my settings I may have to move up to it. Ive only had this system running for 2 weeks now and no complaints but that so far...Thanks for your input
but playing Lost Planet demo in DX9 frame rates drop down to 10 to 15 fps.
Lost Planet is a half baked Xbox360 port - I wouldn't base too many buying decisions on that at this point, althoug I doubt anybody who can afford it would regret stepping up to the GTX. Speaking of LP, you would think it would rock on ATI cards instead of nVidia since the 360 uses an ATI GPU in the first place... makes you wonder what's up with the port that it sucks so badly on the 2900s???
Acuracy of the monitoring software will very from one motherboard to the next. Its all a matter of how far the monitoring chip on the motherboard is from the temp sensors. The further away it is the more resistance there is and the further off the acuracy of the reading will be. But its safe to say you within about 5% of the actual temps.
This is true with the old thermal diodes, but all the modern CPUs (C2D and A64/A64X2) have digital temp sensors in them. You can read about them here.
Yeah, depends how they are reading the temp off the diode and presenting it as a number. Mobo partners tend to "bend" the dividers value a bit, resulting in lower readings (but not by much).
With mpilch on this one, 5 degree fluctuation either side of the value.
