Hi all,

I ve decided to go with 64 bit vista with 4gig of ram for my new gaming system

E8500 3.16
4 gig corshair dominator
Asus p5ql pro mobo
Arctic cooling for proc
arctic 850w power supp
xfx 8800 gtx
500gig barracuda 7200.11 sata h/d
nzxt tempest case

Could anyone tell me : -

A - If thats the right option with ram etc
B - Which version, basic,home,prem,ultra etc.

I ve been told by a friend that for gaming 64 basic would be best as it wont install all the aplications for media and surfing (that you wouldnt need for gaming) as all other versions would slow do performance.

Any input would be great !

there's really no difference in performance between 32 and 64bit versions. I would recommend the 64bit version as it can handle additional ram in case you want to add more in the future. As for going with vista basic, I would recommend going with at least Home Premium 64-bit. You will not notice any performance difference in games, especially with the GPU that you have.


to answer your questions:

A - the ram is fine
B - Home Premium 64bit
