restarting loop - ARGH!!

Laptop is in a continual restart loop and I'm not sure how to stop it. There were updates that it tried to load - obviously failed. Got the message that updates were unsuccessful so restarted to revert changes and everytime it restarts we get the same message about the updates not loading so it's "reverting changes" and restarts.

Please help.

hmmm you could try booting into safe mode - bash f8 a few times once the initial post screen has cleared.

once in safe mode - im hoping you have system restore available - try loading a restore point from before this all happened and see if that helps.

I've tried the safe mode thing and it won't even get to that. Just keeps shutting down and restarting. I've only tried it once - will give that another bash.
