Is the linux os backtrack 5 r2 a good os? What is the difference between the gnome and kde version? Also what is the difference between the R1 and R2 versions?

Solution
It's based off of Ubuntu, so the OS itself is fine. The difference between the Gnome and KDE versions are, well, they use the Gnome and KDE desktop environments respectively. R1 and R2 are just different releases, R2 being newer.

Unless you're looking at doing pen-testing, there's not really a reason to run this OS. Even if you are planning on doing so, all the packages are available for every other distribution.
