Ok i have no idea exactly what is causing this but my computer will not burn DVD's but it will read them. In 'My Computer' it shows the DVDs as CDs. I am trying to burn a movie in Adobe Premier, i have also tried it in roxio and it still doesn't work. I have burned in the same drives before on this computer. They are both Sony DVD +-RW if that helps any. The DVDs are Maxell DVD-R. I'm actually thinking it's a problem with the discs because when i put them in another computer it makes that computer do the same thing but i'm not sure how that would cause it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tried any other blank disks to verify it's the disks? If so, then toss the bad disks or see if you can return them where you bought them or get a refund or something.
If it isn't the disks, then it sounds like it could be a software issue. Sometimes, other applications will take total control of the optical drive writing abilities. I had this with a Toshiba Add-On Application for a laptop; Nero on a desktop, and maybe one other, I don't recall for sure.
Sometimes the apps will take total control of the drive, not letting you do a thing. Other times, just certain functions, such as burning media.
Yes i have tried other discs and it does the same thing.
I have heard that Adobe Premier tends to mess up alot, i'm gonna try to uninstall and reinstall it.
It isn't the drive itself because iv'e tried it on multiple computers and 2 seperate drive on the same computer.
But yes i do quite alot of burning.
Have you tried burning a cd? Also very easy pull the drive and check it in another comp. I guess I would also try burning with another app. You could download any of many free or trial apps. to see if the drive will burn a disk.
I have not tried burning a cd but i have tried using roxio instead of adobe premier and it comes up with a incorrect media error message and acts like it won't burn but then it does it's just really slow. But i need to use Adobe not roxio.
Give this a try.
Ive had similar problems and it turned out to be the software had put a hook on it and wouldnt let it work. In my case it was after a Nero uninstal but Roxio could do the same thing.
Its two programs competeing for the same privledge.
Go to device manager and uninstall the drive.
When the system reboots it will relocate the drive and reset it.
It doesnt always solve the problem but usually does.
Dont worry about windows not finding it, it will.
