Booting / Installing windows XP from USB drive

Hi,

I referred to an article from Microsoft, dated August 2004, which mentions
that
"Current versions of Windows should not be installed to USB
hard disk drives because Windows does not support USB hard disk drives as
the primary boot device."

I would like to know:
a. whether this is resolved in current versions of window or still
today also Windows XP cannot be booted from USB device.
b. If answer is yes, then, what is required for this?

I searched on the web, but couldnot get the confirmation. Urgent reply
requested.
