how do i remove Thearmal pad?

hi guys

i know this is a bit of a noob question, but i dont want to mess up. i bought the C2D E6600 and the artic freezer 7 pro with silver compound for the cpu. i didnt know that the HSF will have a thermal pad on the base already. how do i remove the thermal pad without damageing the hsf?? i want to use my better quality silver compound instead!!!

also, how much thermal compound should i use?? mobo is P5B DLX wifi/ap

Arctic Silver makes a compound remover or you can use some 90% Isopropyl alcohol. It will take some work with a rag, but it will work. As far as the new thermal compound, you should follow the thermal compound mfrs suggestions for application. If it is Arctic Silver, then they have a great guide on their site.
