i have ubuntu 11.10 i just brought a web cam but linux wont read the disc that came with it as it a mircosoft disc does anybody have any answers as to how to get my webcam to work
when i put disc in to load it up its says that the auto run is not not understandable i have no idea on how to get that disc to read i really need the webcam for talking to people overseas if you can help me pls post

the disc contains only windows drivers. not for linux. first of all you can see if the usb camera is detected at all in a terminal by typing:

lsusb

then you can verify the camera is working by running cheese. if you dont already have it install you can install it with:

sudo apt-get install cheese
