Got a pc running windows xp (home).

LCD monitor.

My monitor goes through cycles of displaying color bands (both horizontal and vertical), and washed out displays when it's not on color bands.

I'm starting to thing my problem might be a video card on my pc. Seems this might be what's causing this.

Yes, later on I can take the monitor to a friends house and try it on his.

Just wanted an upfront guess at what the problem is.

Could be the card or the monitor... the only way you'll find out for sure is when you plug the monitor into another computer.
