Hoping I can get some help installing Windows XP on my first custom computer I built. I have my WinXP Pro disk and got to step 9 as shown on this site under Step-by-Step: Clean installing Windows XP (Interactive Setup):
While installing the hardware devices I get the error: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL ... 0X0000000A (0X00000010, 0X00000002, 0X00000000, 0X80523E78)
I tried researching this and found many possible issues and it got pretty technical. Seems like it may have to do with my harddrive being SATA and needing the drivers for it. ??? I looked through the BIOS to see what I might be able to tweak but still no luck. This is where I started to get lost. I have a RAID/AHCI Driver floppy from my motherboard but I don't have a floppy drive. Not too sure what RAID is even for and if I need it
Here are my comp's specs:
Intel DG45ID Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Processor
Corsair 4096MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz (2x2048MB)
Seagate 1TB Serial ATA HD 7200/32MB/SATA-3G
Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU 500W ATX 12V 2.0
Any suggestions to get past this error? Any other info needed that might be helpful? I am excited about building my first computer and I figured I'd run into a least a few problems. I'm sure it can be worked through!
Well I continued to look for solutions last night and I may have gotten it. I learned about slipstreaming so I slipstreamed my xp disc with Service Pack 3 and included the RAID/AHCI drivers (downloaded from intel website). I followed the instructions from this website:
http://lifehacker.com/386526/slips [...] llation-cd
That disc seems to be working.
**New Problem** turns out my xp pro disc may be a pirated copy because the license I put in is not valid although it used to work. Not sure how to get around that.
Your key code is still set to your old computer, "You can only use it once with one computer", But if you ativate by phone you will have to answer a few questions but they will give you a new hash code.
I have a "Genuine MS" CD for reinstalling XP Pro. It was purchased "retail" (did not come installed in a machine). I used to change OS from W2000. Now, I'm going to change the motherboard. Will I need to re-activate thru MS? If so, must I call or can it be done on-line?
