I don't have the discs for most of the programs anymore, so I can't really reinstall Windows. Will it work if I don't reinstall it? What are the various ways to try to avoid it? Also, if it doesn't work, can I just throw my old mobo and cpu in?

It probably won't boot all the way - it might hang or blue screen - the reason is drivers are loading for the old motherbaord - you are making a big leap, different chipset, different everything so the chances it will boot are ver low.

You can try setting the system to use a default hard drive controller instead of the one it is currently using (in device manager) and then put in the new equipment and hope it will at least boot to Windows where you can then install all the new drivers. Try safe mode first.

With a little luck you can put the drive back in the old machine if need be but best to back up your stuff just in case!
