This is with the brand new drivers for ati. This was all under Vista. I dont have the version you have to pay for :P. System specs: q6600, 1 2900 XT NON OC, 2 gb Geil ultra 1066(currently running at 800 b/c of stock cpu fan). BTW I never did the test with the old drivers so yeah haha. Im not sure what resolution it was running at as my monitor supports 2560x1600 but I think it was 1280x1024? because I didnt pay for it so I dont think it would let me change....

What was your old scores? And do you see any difference in your games?

I get this much 3dmarks without overclock!

The 2900xt shoud be a 8800GTX killer so i assume that u should get better results, just my opinion.

Im not a flamer or a fanboy etc., just trying to help here

Reply to Armanox

Then please try and get your facts correct, the 2900XT is set against the GTS not the GTX, that battle was to be fought by the 2900XTX which has yet to make an appearance.

Oh sry my bad...

:) No probs mate, there just seems to be a lot of people making the same mistake recently, what are your 3D '06 scores by the way both standard and OC'd as these may be of interest to the OP and maybe even some others who may wish to see how the 8800GTS stacks up against the 2900XT outside of the review sites, screenies please.

@Romstar you as well, screenies please.

Reply to Mousemonkey

Just installed the new nVidia drivers yesterday and did 3dmark06 just to see if it was any difference to my surprise i got like a 500pt increas to 8955 with the setup below.

3dmark should only be used to compare different setting/tweaks on you own computer and perhaps very similar systems, then there is the experience you get in games from different cards.

*sigh*..

id jus like to say, GOOD FOR YOU OP =]!!!! what did you oc your cpu to ?

give us some specs please? and oh, dnt mind me if my hd 2950xtx xxx edition with gddr5 beats yours

Reply to tehrobzorz

What i meant is, if i can get that increase with new drivers after my card has been out for 7 months Atis cards could too.
And that 3dmarks score has nothing to do with ingame performance, Atis cards may very well beat mine in games but not on 3dmarks.

If people want to interpret my first post as fanboyism, that will have to stand for them.

3DMark Score 8993 3DMarks

SM 2.0 Score 4191 Marks

SM 3.0 Score 3972 Marks

CPU Score 2151 Marks

Graphics Tests
1 - Return to Proxycon 34.268 FPS

2 - Firefly Forest 35.586 FPS

CPU Tests
CPU1 - Red Valley 0.679 FPS

CPU2 - Red Valley 1.09 FPS

HDR Tests
1 - Canyon Flight (SM 3.0) 36.124 FPS

2 - Deep Freeze (SM 3.0) 43.306 FPS

EDIT:
Wth is up with the reply function, i didnt reply to anyone in particular, sorry Armanox

And remember i have a factory oc'ed 8800GTS 320mb

Hmm, I tried that yesterday and my reply just went to the last person on the list, so lets see who this reply refers to, hopefully it will just be to the thread in general.

Nope the 'post reply' button at the bottom of the page is broken.

And thats the one ive been using.....i think.
Hence me thinking its weird i kept replying to specific people.
Might be that i just didn't pay attention, getting really tired/bored here at work.

EDIT: Just as i thought i hit the button on the bottom and i replied to jaydeejohn.... :?
It wasn't me not paying attention.

Vista must really kill your system. I get 9700+ total and 2150 CPU with the system in my sig with the 8.37 drivers in XP. A far cry from the 5500 with the exact same system but 2 6800GT OC SLI.

Is that running with the new AMD processor?
The Athlon Octo15, 8 core @1.5Ghz that's
equal to 12 P4's and will heat your house
all winter just like 12 P4's?

Anyone reckon I could hit 10,000+ if I threw a 2900XT in my machine?

Getting about 5300 in '06 Free version (1280x1024 no AA) atm.

actually.....no. the new amd procs have this new seprate power saving feature and makes your summers colder and winters wetter! ( because it procs get so cold, they condense the air around them thus having condesation or somthing allowing them to form rain clouds)

Was checking futuremarks site about what rigs hit 10k+ with a HD2900XT, atm its just oc'ed systems and CF ones that hit that (some hit 15kish).
Can't figure out if the card it self is oc'ed or not though.
Wished i could find any E4300 though. =/
But since C2Ds are very clockable i guess you might break 10k.

Oh yeah and many of them used 6.14.10.6683 vers. drivers don't know if the new ones gives a much better result. =)

Vista is system intensive. DRM slows 3D performance allegedly and the Nvidia drivers are allegedly quite crap. Although I love Vista and its more stable than XP with only minor bugs, the most annoying one is a graphics one that gives you random lines across your screen from time to time. Been there since Feb and Nvidia / ATI / MS still haven't cured it.

Reply to Alsone

I say FUD.

DRM does not slow down 3D performance, however DWM (desktop windows manager) which is responsible for Aero does slow down 3D performance. So does the new search indexer, and a few other Vista things. I have the search indexer, security features, and some unnecessary services turned off.

Finally some of the new Nvidia drivers are actually good, I think the only thing they haven't fixed is SLI in DX10.

My 3Dmark scores (stock),

XP, 160.03 drivers - 11406

Vista, 158.42 drivers - 10813

Vista is more stable than XP IMO, however I have not heard of or seen a bug that gives random lines across the screen. Somehow I doubt that is a Vista bug.

I also don't see a big penalty with Vista. Cpu-3200 Gpu 612/1000:
XP, 158.19-11827
Vista, 158.18-11519

A 2.6% penalty. I'm only 8 days into Vista and nothing has been disabled. Every default service is still running.

Reply to No1sFanboy

Heh heh, I'm hitting about 8300 with a pair of 7900GT's and a 939 3800x2 @ 2.5 ghz. 8) (XP tho')
