Hello Everyone

In U10.4LTS How to enable visual effects ?
When i click on any option listed in Visual Effects inside Appearance Preferences it shows
|>Desktop effects could not be enabled<|

I've installed CompizConfig [ Simple and Advanced ] Manager but no gain ?

You probably have the older open source drivers that don't support those effects. What graphics hardware are you running?

It's on intel hd3000 integrated

Considering that Sandy Bridge(HD 3000) came out in 2011 and Ubuntu 10.04 is April 2010...

Might be a good idea to check out 12.04LTS.

It's shiny.

Yup it is Im new to linux I like to find solutions to learn it

The solution is to upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Press Alt+F2 and type in:

[cpp]update-manager -d[/cpp]

Well i dont wanna upgrade cause of effects that's why ?

yes to solve it you must upgrade the linux kernel and also upgrade the gnome desktop environment so basically it means upgrading the distro to 12.04.

An excellent publication, but hardly "a good book for learning Linux".

Well that depends on what you're trying to learn If you want to learn just how to do basic things you don't really need a book. Google will get you the answers faster.

What if the basic thing you want to learn is how to use Google?

Books ain't dead yet.

Well then you wouldn't be on a forum asking about which book to get because you wouldn't have found the forum in the first place. I agree that books aren't dead, although they are often far less practical. Google is good for a quick answer, whereas books are good for a better answer (unless they are textbooks, in which case you should stick with Google).
