So I setup my wireless for ubuntu 12.04 on my home network and the wireless icon in the upper right is showing. The internet is working just fine.

I go over to a friend's house and I'm not able to see the icon in the upper right anymore, nothing is showing up...

How do I connect to a different network that isn't already configured on my machine.

How do I change settings (say I change my PW for my router) for my wireless settings in Ubuntu?

Yep it was switched on. I installed it because I want to set up a private FTP server.

you can check if the wireless interface is still running and loaded with 'iwconfig' and 'ifconfig' (run with sudo)
also check if wireless modules for your card are loaded still with 'lsmod'

you may just need to load the wireless module if it is not doing so automatically

wasn't it just last week someone else was having trouble with wireless in ubuntu using the server addition?

btw, you dont need the ubuntu server to run an ftp server. just use the regular desktop version of ubuntu.
